Building Call Boxes

To All Residents –

As Capitol Management and the Board have started to receive a few calls about the call boxes/building entry, we wanted to remind residents as to the following:

  • The Call Boxes are sensitive to cold temperatures.  They can be slower to respond when keying in passcodes and slower to unlatch the doors for entry.
  • Residents should keep their building door keys with them at all times.  If you haven’t tested your door key recently, we recommend making sure that you have a key that works.
  • There are no extra building keys on property.  In the event that you find your key is not working, your options are as follows:
    • Borrow a key from a neighbor and make a copy;
    • Arrange an appointment with Capitol Management (Krystal Hudson) to retrieve a building key.  Immediately copy and return the original back to Capitol Management; or
    • Request Capitol Management (Krystal Hudson) send a locksmith to make a copy.  We have a preferred locksmith who is familiar with the doors.  Please note if this option is selected, the resident is responsible for the locksmith charge, which runs from approx. $175 to $200 typically.

Given the reprieve we will be getting over the next 10 days or so from the recent extreme cold temperatures, now is the time to ensure you have a working key.  January and February are often colder months in Northern Virginia.  Don’t wait!

Please report any building entry issues through the Westwood Village UOA website.  The Board also has requested that the community’s on-site property team report any door issues noted, during their routine cleaning schedule.  As “sticky” doors are detected, the on-site property team is performing routine maintenance to help prevent issues entering the buildings.

Regards,

Westwood Village CUOA
