Dear Residents,
The Condominium UOA was just made aware that Fairfax County will be hosting a public open house at the Ash Grove Historic House, located at the rear of our community on Ashgrove House Lane, on Saturday, July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Fairfax County Park Authority as part of its Resident Curator Program, which provides opportunities for the public to learn about Fairfax County’s historic properties and the ongoing efforts to preserve them. During the event, the resident curator will be onsite to welcome visitors, answer questions, discuss the restoration of the property, and provide access to the grounds.
About Ash Grove
Ash Grove is one of the few surviving 18th-century homes in Virginia and was originally built by the Fairfax family. Thomas Fairfax constructed the original portion of the home in 1790, and the family occupied the property until 1847. The property includes the main Federal-style house, an 18th-century brick kitchen, and a historic smokehouse.
Following a devastating fire in 1960, the home was carefully restored using Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) drawings and photographs from the 1930s. Today, portions of the original wood flooring still bear the marks of the fire, reflecting the home’s remarkable history and restoration.
Parking Information
The Townhomes HOA has been in contact with Fairfax County regarding potential parking impacts to our community. There is no event parking available within Westwood Village. Fairfax County has arranged for attendees to park at Westbriar Elementary School, where shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from Ash Grove throughout the event.
Residents may notice increased pedestrian and shuttle bus activity near Ashgrove House Lane during the event.
Thank you,
